The Eastern England Secure Data Environment is an NHS-owned and NHS-run resource that provides secure access to de-identified NHS patient data, including linked datasets such as secondary care prescribing data and diagnostic results, and it is governed through frameworks intended to keep patient data safe. Researchers from the NHS, universities, charities, and commercial companies can apply to access the data for analysis aimed at preventing, diagnosing, and treating disease and improving healthcare, with access granted only to approved researchers who demonstrate a need for public benefit under the Five Safes Framework.
